Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure a welcoming environment for patients, assisting them throughout their visit.
- Execute duties as outlined in the Healthcare Administrative Assistant (HAA) role.
- Perform responsibilities as a Clinical Assistant, adhering to established protocols.
- Conduct in-house testing as per available equipment and documented training.
- Maintain laboratory operations independently, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Collect patient specimens using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Verify patient information and orders for accuracy.
- Review patient history relevant to laboratory procedures.
- Assess and select the most suitable site for blood draws, ensuring proper technique.
- Follow safety protocols during specimen collection and processing.
- Prepare samples for external laboratory transport, ensuring proper labeling.
- Communicate abnormal or critical results to the relevant healthcare team members.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
- Keep the work area organized, clean, and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: A minimum of one year in a physician office laboratory is preferred.
Certifications: Phlebotomy certification is mandatory upon hire or within the first year. Some practices may prefer a certified nursing assistant.
Life Support Certification: AHA BLS-HCP certification is required within the initial 90 days of employment.
Additional Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Attention to detail, dexterity, and organizational skills are critical. Proficiency in electronic medical records and familiarity with clinical and clerical procedures is preferred.
