The New York Public Library is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Adult English Language and Literacy Student Mentor to join our team. As a Student Mentor, you will play a critical role in supporting the success of adult students in our English as a Second Language (ESOL) and adult literacy programs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the intake and assessment of new students, ensuring accurate data collection and entry.
- Provide administrative support, including data entry, photocopying, and answering phones.
- Support the preparation of materials and event setup for information sessions.
- Orient students to using computers, the Internet, and educational software.
- Enter data into student tracking databases and administer standardized assessments.
- Monitor student attendance and maintain rosters.
- Provide office assistance, including scheduling appointments and checking in/out library materials.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a culturally diverse adult population.
- Successful experience in giving clear and concise instructions to a diverse adult population.
- Proficiency in computer skills and keyboarding.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability and flexibility.
- Some college coursework.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills.
- Experience training adults in basic computer skills.

The position requires limited physical effort, with light lifting and occasional travel within NYC.

ScheduleTuesday, Thursday 9:00-5:00, Saturday 10:00-3:00, evenings as required.
