Position Overview:

Role Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, reviews, and/or completes the MDS/PPS components within the facility's MDS/PPS departments.
  • Ensures the accurate completion of all Medicare PPS MDS and/or OBRA assessments for both subacute and long-term care settings.
  • Establishes timelines for the completion of Medicare-required assessments, optimizing completion dates to enhance reimbursement and RUGs categories for each assessment.
  • Acts as a liaison to the business office coordinator and/or designated personnel to determine Medicare eligibility and track Medicare days within the facility.
  • Serves as the primary contact for Managed Care providers to secure appropriate authorizations and reimbursements for services rendered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with Medical Records and Therapy teams to prepare documentation for CMS and other entities for pre and post-pay record reviews, ADR requests, and appeals.
  • Manages NYS RUGs III case mix for Medicaid reimbursement.
  • May require occasional travel between facilities and training centers.
  • Oversees MDS Coordinator(s) as designated.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Current RN licensure in the state of employment.
  • Prior experience with MDS 3.0 scheduling, coding, and submission is preferred.
  • Familiarity with PointClickCare is advantageous.
  • Experience with Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) and Case Mix Index (CMI) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of state Medicaid programs, Medicare/PPS, Managed Care programs, RUGs III and IV classification, and Part A coverage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and dedicated.
  • Willingness to train suitable candidates.
  • This role requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, and supervisors, necessitating proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English at an intermediate level or higher.
