Position Summary

Support and assist licensed clinical team members by delivering phlebotomy services in an outpatient care setting.

Responsible for executing various tasks related to specimen collection and management in a medical office environment while applying the five (5) Simply Better steps in every interaction with patients and team members.

Key Responsibilities


Possess the necessary skills, qualifications, education, and licensure required for all responsibilities associated with this position.

Demonstrate excellence in communication (both written and verbal), customer service, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.

Exhibit strong prioritization, organizational skills, and multitasking abilities while maintaining attention to detail and follow-through. Utilize critical thinking to identify issues, resolve problems logically, and take initiative.

Ensure laboratory compliance with quality and safety standards set by the organization and regulatory bodies. Report any discrepancies or concerns appropriately.

Maintain punctuality and adhere to company policies, procedures, and directives.

Engage positively and constructively with others.

Prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities.


Perform venipunctures and capillary specimen collections on all patients (including geriatric, pediatric, and obese populations) according to provider orders and laboratory guidelines.

Adhere to laboratory standard practices and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Understand and comply with the Scope of Practice based on licensure.

Verify two (2) patient identifiers before specimen collection. Label all specimens accurately and immediately in the presence of the patient.

Maintain all Quality Control (QC) logs per regulatory and departmental guidelines.

Submit all requested daily, weekly, and monthly data to the supervisor promptly. Complete all daily logs by the end of the shift.

Obtain necessary approvals from primary care providers for any non-approved referral provider ordered tests.

Provide timely follow-up on all TIQs (tests in question), promptly notifying physicians of critical and stat values. Contact patients promptly for any required re-draws.

Conduct daily disinfection of the laboratory. Perform spot disinfection of the draw chair and processing area as needed. Maintain laboratory according to 5S Standards.

Provide coverage as a Medical Assistant if applicable.

Keep Nursing Supervisor and/or Lab Coordinator informed of any laboratory department issues.

Perform any additional duties as assigned by the management team within the scope of knowledge and ability.

Other responsibilities as needed.


Compensation placement is based on various factors, including relevant years of experience and qualifications.

In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation opportunities for this role, including shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonuses.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Experience and Education

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) is mandatory.

Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Certification from an Accredited Medical Assistant Program is preferred.

A minimum of one (1) year of phlebotomy experience is required.

A minimum of one (1) year of pediatric phlebotomy experience is preferred.
