Job Title: Head Mechanic

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Mechanic to join our team at Upper Arlington Schools. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet of vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of automotive vehicles, grounds keeping equipment, school buses, and other related heavy-duty equipment and component parts.
  • Supervise and direct the work of the District Mechanic and other maintenance staff.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure optimal vehicle performance and safety.
  • Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Transportation and other stakeholders to develop and implement transportation policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to maintenance staff on new technologies and procedures.
  • Manage inventory and supplies, including ordering and tracking parts and materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Five to ten years of experience in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with school bus endorsement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with staff, students, and parents.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools, and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines.
Working Conditions:
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise and repetitive hand motion.
  • Frequent requirement to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools.
