Instructional Assistant

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, working with individual students or small groups
  • Assist with classroom management and maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or Para Professional Institute Certificate
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced classroom environment, interacting with students, teachers, and staff on a daily basis. The ability to maintain emotional control under stress and moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting is required.

This is a non-exempt, at-will position.
