Elementary School Assistant Administrator

As an Assistant Principal with the Waco Independent School District, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the school principal in the administration of the instructional program and campus-level operations. This dynamic role requires a strong understanding of school operations, excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to coordinate campus support operations effectively.
Main Responsibilities:
Instructional Management
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of educational programs.
- Promote innovative instructional programs, providing support for teachers to pilot new initiatives.
- Foster the use of technology in teaching and learning processes.
School/Organizational Climate
- Promote a positive and caring climate for learning.
- Address diverse cultural backgrounds with sensitivity and fairness.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff.
School/Organizational Improvement
- Participate in the development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
- Support the principal in maintaining and using information systems to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
Personnel Management
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
- Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Supervise operations in the principal's absence.
- Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
- Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
- Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
Student Management
- Ensure students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
- Help develop a student discipline management system that promotes positive student behavior.
- Ensure school rules are uniformly observed, and student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
School/Community Relations
- Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit support in realizing it.
- Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
