Municipal Water Systems Specialist

Overview:
Under the guidance of supervisory personnel, the Water System Technician engages in skilled and specialized activities related to the construction, upkeep, repair, and enhancement of municipal facilities and equipment across various Public Works Divisions. This role includes providing technical insights on specialized plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, or welding challenges, while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of all relevant policies, procedures, and operational methods pertinent to assigned responsibilities. Additional related duties may be performed as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
The Water System Technician operates at a journey level, undertaking responsibilities that encompass technical tasks associated with the construction, repair, and maintenance of municipal facilities, infrastructure, and equipment across a range of general or specialized trades, including building maintenance and welding.
Individuals in this classification are expected to work with a significant degree of autonomy and may oversee projects involving one or more less experienced personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two (2) years of full-time experience in one or more building trades, or five (5) years of full-time experience in semi-skilled building trades work.
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license or an equivalent from another state.
- Possession of a Grade II or higher Water Distribution Operator Certification from the State of California, or an equivalent certification from another state or governmental entity that is transferable.
Additional Information:
Only applicants who meet the qualification standards for this position by the application filing deadline will be permitted to participate in the examination process.
The examination process may consist of the following components:
- Application Package Review: Only the most qualified applicants, based on the information provided in the application, will be invited to participate in the examination processes.
- Oral Exam: 100% weight value. Candidates must achieve a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.
The final selection and appointment will be made by the City Manager, upon the recommendation of the department head, from the established eligibility list.
Applicants may qualify for Veteran's Preference Points (5 points) and should attach appropriate documentation for consideration of this preference.
