The Cardiac Medicine Intermediate Care Unit at UNC Health REX is situated on the 7th floor of the Heart and Vascular Hospital. This 24-bed unit provides intermediate care for patients with cardiac conditions and various complex co-morbidities, including heart failure, dysrhythmias, heart attacks, and pre- and post-cardiac/vascular procedures. Our staff caters to both adult and geriatric patients.
Each room is equipped with advanced GE monitors and computers to facilitate the care of our complex cardiac patients.
Care is delivered through a collaborative team approach involving nurses, care managers, advanced practice providers, physicians, pharmacists, chaplains, patient care technicians, and administrative staff. Specialized technicians monitor patient rhythms from the Telemetry Command Center, providing ongoing support and surveillance for rhythm changes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Education and Professional Development: Develops and implements educational programs tailored to the learning needs of staff, patients, and families. Encourages staff participation in continuing education and competency initiatives, while serving as a consultant in specialty areas.
2. Evaluation: Assesses patient progress and adjusts care plans as necessary, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
3. Implementation: Fosters an environment that values diversity and teamwork, ensuring that quality care and services are available to patients and families. Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
4. Leadership: Cultivates a supportive environment for staff recruitment and retention. Provides constructive feedback to assist in staff development and performance evaluations.
5. Assessment: Integrates data from complex situations to prioritize care, addressing physical, psychosocial, and educational needs of patients and families.
6. Planning: Establishes standards of excellence for clinical practice and ensures consistent implementation by the team. Collaborates with management to meet budgetary goals and staffing needs.
7. Research and Performance Improvement: Works with management to evaluate and implement research that enhances standards of care, promoting quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Bachelor's degree (BSN) required.
Licensure/Certification: Must possess NC RN Licensure and BCLS certification. Professional certification relevant to the practice area is required within the probationary period.
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience as a licensed RN.
Skills: Proficient in clinical information interpretation and documentation. Strong communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to clinical situations and solve complex problems.
