Job Summary
This role encompasses technical and customer service responsibilities to support the permitting processes within the department.

Minimum Requirements
Associate's degree in a relevant field. A High School diploma or equivalent combined with relevant post-secondary education or experience may substitute for the Associate degree on a year-for-year basis.
Three (3) years of pertinent experience, sufficient to understand and effectively perform the primary duties of the position. Relevant experience includes:
- Managing building permits and reviewing plans for code compliance.
- Interacting with clients, providing guidance, and explaining technical details.
- Organizing files, records, and executing administrative tasks.
- Coordinating with other departments and ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Evaluating plans and identifying potential compliance issues.
- Resolving conflicts and developing solutions.
Possession of or ability to obtain ICC Permit Technician certification.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses as per established Borough policy.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides guidance and assistance to the public regarding fire and life safety plan review processes and protocols.
- Establishes and maintains records for the Fire Code Office; acts as Records Coordinator for all fire code functions.
- Processes plans and construction documents for review; assists applicants in completing the application and submission process; calculates and collects review fees; verifies information accuracy; routes files to fire code officials for assessment; maintains inspection logs and reports; schedules fire code inspections.
- Conducts research and compiles reports.
- Monitors the review process by tracking applications; notifies applicants of approval; schedules final inspections.
- Prepares and updates application forms, pamphlets, brochures, and instructional materials; maintains the department's website.
- Arranges travel for department personnel.
- When staffing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), performs functions assigned by the Event Commander to effectively manage incidents.
- Performs related duties as necessary.
Health Insurance:
The Borough provides group health insurance to all regular employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, covering medical, prescription, audio, and optional dental and vision benefits. Coverage begins for employees and their family members on the first of the month following employment.
Life & AD&D:
All regular full-time or part-time employees receive life insurance coverage provided by the Borough, including $50,000 for themselves, $2,000 for their spouse, and $1,000 for each qualified child.
Retirement:
Mandatory participation in the Alaska Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) with varying contribution rates based on the tier applicable to the employee.
Holidays:
The Borough recognizes 11 paid holidays plus one floating holiday, with holiday pay for regular employees based on their scheduled work hours.
Personal Leave:
Personal leave begins accruing from the first day of employment, with specific accrual rates based on years of service.
