Position Overview:
The Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or other designated healthcare professional, engaging in activities that align with their Scope of Practice.
- Provide fundamental nursing care to patients by adhering to established protocols and procedures.
- Collect patient information, including vital signs, and observe patient behavior, reporting findings as necessary.
- Administer injections, conduct routine tests, manage wound care, and change dressings.
- Maintain accurate patient records using standardized medical documentation practices.
- Dispense medications within the limits of licensure and track treatment progress and patient reactions.
- Contribute to the development and assessment of patient care plans in accordance with practice guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Communicate health information to patients and their families regarding health maintenance and management of conditions.
- Engage in collaborative efforts to enhance patient care processes and outcomes.
- Administer IV therapy, perform blood draws, and manage laboratory testing and results.
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health while adhering to service behavior standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program.
- Current and valid LPN/LVN license from the state licensing authority.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification is required; additional specialty certifications may be necessary.
- IV certification may be required based on specific duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in a clinical or acute care nursing environment.
- Experience in a specialty clinic setting is advantageous.
Essential Skills:
- Regular attendance during scheduled shifts is mandatory.
- Understanding of basic nursing principles and familiarity with healthcare technology and equipment.
- Effective communication skills with both staff and patients.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and remain composed in emergency situations.
- Exhibit a positive and compassionate attitude towards patients.
- Possess a strong work ethic and maintain professionalism.
Physical Requirements:
Employees must be able to see and read information, assess patient needs, operate medical equipment, and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare providers. Frequent manual dexterity is required for operating delicate equipment, and employees should be able to lift and move patients and equipment as necessary. The role may involve navigating busy environments and standing for extended periods.
