Job Description

Position: Laboratory Technician

Location: Irving TX

Compensation: $17.20 per hour

Shift: Evening Shift

Contract Duration: 6 Months

OVERVIEW:

The Laboratory Technician will engage in essential laboratory operations, supporting the professional staff and ensuring efficient workflow within the lab environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the sorting and intake of specimens within the laboratory.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Execute laboratory procedures such as centrifugation, label printing, and data recording (including temperature logs) for specimen management.
  • Prepare reagents and media necessary for laboratory tests.
  • Organize specimens at workstations for analysis, including building worklists, aliquoting samples, and preparing slides.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control tasks as designated.
  • Address and resolve pending specimen lists.
  • Locate and retrieve missing samples.
  • Ensure cleanliness and decontamination of work areas.
  • Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests.
  • Maintain departmental records and files.
  • Replace gas cylinders as needed.
  • Adhere to all personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Utilize the laboratory information system and operate personal computers effectively.
  • Safely dispose of biohazardous materials.
  • Complete necessary training and competency evaluations.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; medical assistant training is advantageous. Coursework in mathematics and sciences is preferred.
