Job Summary

Bread for the City is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Health Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will provide critical support to our patients and contribute to the overall success of our clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Support: Provide assistance to patients with complex medical needs, working closely with our healthcare providers to ensure seamless care.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the ordering, tracking, and storage of medical supplies, including immunizations, medications, and lab equipment.
  • Vaccine Coordination: Ensure our clinic is up-to-date with DC Department of Health vaccination programs, overseeing inventory, storage, and handling of vaccines.
  • Supervision and Training: Supervise Medical Assistants and provide training on clinical procedures, including phlebotomy, administering vaccines/medications, and collecting lab specimens.
  • Harm Reduction Services: Oversee our clinic's harm reduction services, including needle exchange programs, vaccination/testing, and referrals to substance abuse treatment.
  • Follow-up and Case Management: Assist with follow-up of patients after Emergency Department visits and hospital discharges.
Health Education
  • Health Teaching: Provide health education to patients on the use of medical devices, such as blood pressure monitors, glucometers, and insulin pens.
  • Clinical Support: Provide clinical support to front desk staff and the health resource room.
Administrative and Risk Management
  • Credentialing and Privileging: Work with the Chief Medical Officer to oversee credentialing and privileging of practitioners.
  • Risk Management and Safety: Develop, coordinate, and participate in ongoing training for clinic staff on risk management and safety, including required annual trainings on blood borne pathogens, mandatory reporting, and HIPAA.
  • Safety Activities: Coordinate safety activities, including annual medical equipment inspections.
  • HRSA Compliance: Assist with HRSA compliance and site visit preparation, including assisting with FTCA deeming application.
  • Public Health Coalitions: Represent the organization in various coalitions to support public health activities.
Requirements
  • Licensure: Licensed RN in Washington, DC.
  • Language Skills: Candidates who speak other languages, such as Spanish, Amharic, or Mandarin, are preferred.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and staff in a professional manner.
  • Technology Skills: Familiarity with Google Organization & Productivity Tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar) and/or ability to learn new technology systems.
  • Cultural Competence: Willingness to learn and carry out Bread for the City's commitments to building a socially just, racially equitable, and gender affirming culture.
