Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled High Voltage Electrician to join our team at Naval Facilities Engineering Command. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for installing, modifying, and replacing generation and distribution equipment in substations, power-generating facilities, transformer vaults, or distribution centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain overhead and underground distribution lines as assigned.
  • Set correct wire tension or sag in accordance with strength and weight of wire.
  • Use test devices (e.g., voltmeters, ohmmeters, meggers) and electrical tools to conduct basic checks for continuity, resistance, voltage, shorts, insulation breakdowns, and grounds.
  • Troubleshoot distribution circuits to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, damage, capacitance imbalances, and cable breaks.
  • Troubleshoot distribution circuits, generating, and controlling equipment to locate and correct the cause of outages.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision, including following instructions to repair high voltage electrical power-generating and distribution equipment, reading circuit drawing and diagrams to identify electrical problems, and using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on energized high voltage electrical systems.
