Job Summary

Tidewater Staffing is seeking a skilled Machinist Specialist to work in various local shipyards. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining complex machinery and equipment on conventional and nuclear ships and submarines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation and Repair: Install and repair main propulsion machinery and associated equipment/components, including condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, and valves.
  • Foundation Work: Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ship's armament.
  • Control and Safety Devices: Install, adjust, set, and repair or replace various control/regulating or safety devices, such as meters, gages, valves, governors, and automatic alarms.
  • Maintenance and Testing: Test or assist in testing of shipboard machinery pierside or on sea trials to prove satisfactory operation and acceptance.
  • Tool Operation: Use various portable and fixed machine tools, such as boring bars, milling machines, facing machines, and drill presses.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate and arrange for the work of several trades in connection with performing work from information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, written and/or oral instructions.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in machinist work, preferably in a shipyard or marine environment.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including propulsion, auxiliary, and steering gear. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents. Proficiency in the use of hand tools, calipers, and micrometers.
