Job Title: Recreation Therapist

Join the New York State Office of Mental Health as a Recreation Therapist and play a vital role in promoting the mental health and well-being of individuals with serious mental illness and children with serious emotional disturbances.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Therapist to join our team. As a Recreation Therapist, you will plan and conduct activities for client/patient groups, working individually or as a member of a treatment team or treatment program. You will analyze and report behavioral patterns to a team leader or other supervisor, verbally or in medical records.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and conduct activities for client/patient groups, including recreational and leisure activities
  • Analyze and report behavioral patterns to a team leader or other supervisor
  • Participate in team meetings, recreation/leisure assessment and evaluation
  • Requisition, store and maintain equipment and supplies
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Physical Education, or Adaptive Physical Education
  • One year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program
  • Current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
  • Current licensure by NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist
