We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Services Representative to join our team at Tidelands Health. As a Patient Services Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration process for our patients, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient information.
Key Responsibilities- Register patients for services, ensuring accurate and complete demographic, financial, and medical information
- Handle all first call resolution for assigned departments, transferring calls as necessary and making appointments as required
- Pre-register patients for procedures, verifying insurance and other necessary information
- Assist with making referrals, prior authorizations, and payment collections
- Provide excellent customer service, engaging patients throughout the registration process and ensuring a positive experience
- Manage patient visitor flow, assisting patients to their destination as needed and following hospital policy and safety guidelines
- Accurately enter required information into the electronic health system, following prescribed procedures for positive identification and medical record number assignment
- Review demographic and insurance information for completeness, correcting any deficiencies to avoid delayed collection efforts
- Obtain and document necessary signatures and forms, including Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire, Advance Beneficiary Notice, and HIPAA Privacy Notice
- Provide information and handouts on patient rights and responsibilities, HIPAA Privacy Notice, and financial assistance documentation
- Thoroughly document insurance verification information, identifying deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and policy limitations
- Answer inbound and place outbound telephone calls, directing callers and ensuring efficient and timely handling of calls
- Remind patients of upcoming appointments, relay instructions, and ask follow-up care questions as needed
- Cancel and reschedule appointments as necessary, and assist with identifying and initiating necessary referrals
- Organize, expedite, and follow-up on paperwork related to patient care
- Schedule appointments for providers and communicate necessary instructions to patients
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- At least 1 year of related customer-facing experience, preferably in healthcare
- Demonstrated understanding of basic medical terminology preferred
- Call center, patient scheduling, and/or physician front-office experience preferred
This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The physical demands of this role include standing, sitting, and walking, with occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
