Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Flight Physics Engineer to join our team at Electra Aero. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for supporting the development of our eSTOL aircraft, including aerodynamic and propulsion system models, database, and analysis tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct conceptual and preliminary design studies of eSTOL aircraft and analysis of comparator aircraft.
  • Integrate empirical methods, hand calculations, vortex lattice codes, CFD, wind tunnel, and flight test data to analyze aerodynamic performance and stability & control.
  • Own the development of the vehicle cockpit simulator software and hardware, supporting flying qualities assessments.
  • Support flight test planning, instrumentation selection, execution, and data analysis.
  • Document analysis and prepare presentations for gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of the design.

Requirements:

  • Strong technical background in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or related discipline, with a Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience with aircraft design process and familiarity with various vehicle analysis tools, including fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, aircraft sizing, performance, stability, and control.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, absolute integrity, and a strong work ethic.
  • Familiarity with software development in MATLAB, Simulink, Python, Fortran, and C.
  • Highly flexible and dynamic, with the ability to multitask and work across time zones.
  • Must be a US Person (Citizen or Green Card).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aircraft control system design experience, including control law development and moving from control system requirements to hardware.
  • Experience with detailed aero design, moving from concept to firm OML definition.
  • Flight or wind tunnel testing experience, including planning, leading, and executing tunnel test campaigns.
  • Aircraft rapid prototyping and hands-on experience.
  • CFD proficiency and 3D CAD proficiency (CATIA/Solidworks).
  • Software engineering experience, including continuous integration, agile development methods, and design optimization.
