Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Stationary Engineer/HVAC Mechanic to join our team at Harper College. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of our comprehensive heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, as well as other utility systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, diagnose, inspect, repair, replace, service, and perform preventive maintenance on utilities and HVAC equipment, including high and low-pressure boilers, commercial size furnaces and air conditioners, hermetic centrifugal refrigeration machines, and other related equipment.
  • Responsible for the operation of a mixed-use utility system over a campus-style facility, prioritizing multiple issues and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the system.
  • Inform coworkers regarding procedures and orders of work, providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action, and complying with health, safety, and building regulations.
  • Prepare documentation, including records of refrigerants, daily paperwork, time and materials, specifications, and other required records.
  • Install new parts and equipment as required, and inspect College property for unsafe conditions, taking appropriate action to correct any unsafe practice or condition.
  • Responsible for housekeeping, cleaning, and painting of respective areas and equipment, as well as snow and ice removal duties.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Heating, or trade school equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in mechanical maintenance and operation of HVAC and related equipment in a 750,000+ sq. ft. facility with a mixed-use distribution.
  • Skilled knowledge in high- and low-pressure boilers, hermetic and centrifugal refrigeration machines, plant water management, and energy management/building automation systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams, and proficiency in the following trades: electrical, refrigeration, and piping.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license, Elgin or Chicago Stationary Engineer license, Refrigeration license, and Pool Operator license (obtain within one year of hire).
