Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC Mechanic/Stationary Engineer to join our team at Harper College. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of our heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as other mechanical systems throughout our campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including high- and low-pressure boilers, hermetic and centrifugal refrigeration machines, and other related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts, to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with mechanical systems, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Perform repairs and replacements of mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, and other related equipment.
  • Work with building automation systems to monitor and control temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff to ensure that all facilities are properly maintained and that all systems are functioning properly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a related field, such as HVAC or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair, preferably in a large commercial or industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of building automation systems and ability to work with computerized systems.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Elgin or Chicago Stationary Engineer License, Refrigeration License, and Pool Operator License (obtain within one year of hire).
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to loud noises, heights, and confined spaces. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a variety of weather conditions.
