LPN - Behavioral Health Evening Shift

UPMC Altoona is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Inpatient Behavioral Health team on the 3G unit for evening shifts. This full-time position comes with a holiday rotation and every other weekend rotation.

Our Behavioral Health Unit provides care for 34 adult patients, with a diverse team of RNs, LPNs, PCTs, and Mental Health Workers. We cater to patients with a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and co-existing substance issues.

Our staff are trained to help patients process, learn coping skills, manage medications, and maintain compliance. Our Psychiatrist conducts daily assessments to ensure patients are on the right medication dosage, monitor side effects, and track clinical improvement.

This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus, making it an attractive opportunity for recent graduates or experienced nurses looking for a change.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for meals and nourishment, serving and collecting trays, and assisting with feedings as directed.
  • Perform other assigned tasks, such as cleaning utility room cupboards, collecting and bagging soiled linen, and cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments and equipment.
  • Assist patients with toileting, collect and label specimens for examination, and help patients in and out of bed.
  • Understand the special needs of patients with co-occurring disorders and utilize appropriate assessment and intervention techniques.
  • Observe, report, and document all unusual symptoms, condition changes, and care delivered as directed.
  • Provide recreational and diversional activities for patients as directed.
  • Assist in the direct care of patients as assigned and respond effectively in emergency situations.
Requirements:
  • Must have a temporary permit or a valid license as a practical nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Must maintain CPR certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) based on AHA standards.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP).
