About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as an Adolescent Literacy Specialist. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the development of language and literacy skills for students in grades 6-12 across the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement language and literacy-specific systems to support initiatives for grades 6-12.
  • Collaborate with agency teams to develop and deploy aligned systems and protocols for program development and delivery of professional development.
  • Support the coordination of the Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant and the State's Comprehensive State Literacy Plan.
  • Provide targeted training and technical assistance to identified schools and districts in adolescent literacy implementation.
  • Coordinate activities and support provided by regional adolescent literacy specialists.
  • Communicate with regional entities and directors related to adolescent literacy.
  • Work collaboratively with the State Literacy Network to develop resources and tools related to legislative requirements.
  • Research, compile data, analyze, review, interpret, and complete reports regarding initiatives.
  • Develop resources and supports for Local Literacy Plan and Reading Achievement Plan development and implementation to state support systems.
  • Support the development of literacy professional learning for educators of students in grades 6-12.
  • Create products, tools, and methods for appropriate language and literacy program implementation according to research supported by strong to moderate evidence.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding policies in language and literacy multi-tiered system of supports to support professional development.
  • Ensure professional development initiatives are focused on improving student achievement and daily practice of educators.
  • Document and maintain detailed records for completing all language and literacy initiatives.
  • Implement data systems to manage work and document stakeholder input.
  • Design opportunities for stakeholder input and feedback to evaluate initiatives.
  • Review changing state and federal laws, best practices, and educational data and research and recommend policy changes as needed to direct supervisor.
  • Proactively communicate progress of initiatives to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Travel statewide for presentations, conferences, trainings, and meetings.

Requirements
  • 72 months in language and literacy, literacy education, or curriculum and instruction with reading/literacy endorsements on state license.
  • Three years' experience in any combination of the following: working in a secondary educational setting, with an emphasis on language and literacy, working in one of the following capacities, reading interventionist, intervention specialist, classroom reading teacher, literacy coach, administrator with experience in implementation of district/school-wide curriculum/assessment in literacy, literacy professional development provider.
  • Current valid driver's license or ability to secure transportation when travel is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in literacy curriculum review/evaluation, literacy policy development, literacy program implementation/evaluation in a non-profit, government, and/or educational setting.
