A Mechanical Engineer II at Clark Nexsen will play a crucial role in supporting the design, engineering, analysis, equipment selection, and system layout of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related mechanical systems for both commercial and governmental projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in various aspects of mechanical engineering design under the guidance of senior engineers, which includes conceptual studies, program requirements, design analysis, calculations, equipment selection, and layout for building design, upgrades, and retrofits.
- Conduct client meetings to gather requirements and feedback.
- Collaborate with design team members to ensure seamless integration of mechanical design with other disciplines.
- Adhere to the firm's quality control standards and procedures.
- Learn and apply departmental and company standards effectively.
- Enhance design and analytical skills through practical experience.
- Prepare project programming, schematic designs, design development documents, and construction documentation.
- Assist during the bidding process by preparing addenda, amendments, and bid tabulations.
- Provide support during the construction phase, including on-site representation, responding to information requests, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
- Coordinate with building commissioning professionals as necessary.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other team members.
- Work under the direction of senior engineers, project managers, and operations directors.
- Perform tasks as directed by senior engineers.
- Ensure document organization and clarity.
- Coordinate discipline drawings effectively.
- Assist in preparing fee proposals for mechanical design work.
- Draft plans, sections, and details as required.
- Complete schematic-level sections and details.
- Create schematic-level plans and details for projects of moderate to high complexity.
- Develop accurate three-dimensional models of mechanical systems using Building Information Modeling (BIM) software when required.
- Generate design options to resolve system conflicts.
- Assist with building systems calculations and LEED templates.
- Engage in building system selections and code analysis.
- Contribute to the development of discipline specifications.
- Coordinate work products with other disciplines.
- Adhere to project schedules and budgets.
- Graduation from an ABET-accredited engineering program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering (Mechanical focus), or Architectural Engineering Technology (Mechanical focus).
- Completion of core courses in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Dynamics.
- EIT Certification is mandatory.
- Pursuit of Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 48 months of employment is expected.
- Understanding of sustainable design principles and practices, with a preference for LEED AP accreditation.
- Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged for professional growth.
- Active membership in NSPE, ASHRAE, ASPE, or similar organizations is desirable.
- Proficiency in current company software for documentation and information management.
- Familiarity with design and production software, particularly REVIT modeling software, is highly preferred.
- Up to 7 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, particularly in HVAC system design, ductwork distribution, piping systems, and construction document development.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and standards is essential.
- Ability to produce clear and effective documentation and correspondence.
- Capable of delivering presentations to diverse groups.
- Strong communication skills in a collaborative environment.
