Job Summary

The Protective Services Representative provides security services to VCU Health by courteously assisting staff, visitors, and patients; enforcing rules and regulations of the hospitals; projecting a positive image; and promoting a safe healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Convey an image of professionalism, behaving in a way that is conducive to good hospital and community relations.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the hospitals, ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist with de-escalating agitated patients, both individually and as a member of a team.
  • Prevent potentially risky and/or violent situations.
Requirements
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License and acceptable driving record that reflects safe and lawful motor vehicle operation.
  • Registration as an Unarmed Security Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (VDCJS) or successful completion of VDCJS Unarmed Security Officer curriculum offered by the Department within the first six months of employment.
  • Previous knowledge of security and/or law enforcement measures and techniques at a level generally acquired during 6 to 12 months of on-the-job training and orientation in such techniques or college curriculum in Administration of Justice.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of security, public safety, or law enforcement work experience.
  • Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
Work Environment

This position is a 36-hour, full-time position scheduled for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights from 6pm to 6:30am.

The Protective Services Representative will work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple priorities and adapting to frequent change.

The position requires the ability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, and extended hours based on schedule and organizational needs.

The Protective Services Representative will be responsible for promoting a safe healthcare environment and ensuring the well-being of patients, staff, and visitors.
