About the Team

Our Communications Design team is responsible for crafting the narrative of OpenAI's story, conveying our mission and values to the world through various channels. As a key member of this team, you will collaborate with a talented group of professionals to develop and implement design solutions that drive business outcomes.

We are a dynamic and growing team that sits within a larger organization of experts in press relations, public policy, and employee communications. Our goal is to create a cohesive and compelling brand voice that resonates with our audience.

About the Role

As a Design Engineer at OpenAI, you will play a critical role in designing and developing high-impact user experiences that drive business results. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of designers and engineers to bring innovative ideas from concept to execution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Rapidly prototyping new user experiences
  • Iterating quickly to turn ideas into testable concepts
  • Enhancing our design system and establishing motion guidelines for consistency and delight
  • Working closely with designers and engineers to prioritize beauty and usability
  • Crafting solutions focused on the end-user's needs and experiences
  • Finding innovative ways to integrate design and engineering
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • 8+ years of experience in design engineering with a strong portfolio
  • Experience in design (layout, typography, color, Figma)
  • Experience with front-end engineering, CSS/Tailwind, Vercel
  • Experience with motion & storytelling (easing curves, animation duration)
  • Ability to independently lead projects from concept to launch
  • Commitment to creating beautiful, user-centric designs prioritizing usability and accessibility
