Patient Care Specialist

UPMC is seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the nursing team.
Responsibilities- Provide Patient Care: Assist with patient procedures, activities of daily living, and physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
- Collaborate with the Nursing Team: Provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status.
- Education and Training: Provide instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN.
- Equipment Maintenance: Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department and establish effective communication with other departments.
- Professional Development: Constructively receive feedback and direction, identify and communicate learning needs, and take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Cultural Competence: Demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions.
- Documentation: Document in the medical record according to established procedures.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 1 year of general healthcare experience or 6 months of experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion.
- Certifications: Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class, basic information system training, and CPR certification.
- EMT or Paramedic Certification: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program.
