Manufacturing Maintenance Team Lead

RPI Print, a leader in the digital print industry, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Supervisor to oversee a small maintenance team at our Rochester, NY facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintenance and a proven track record of ensuring the effective operation of equipment through preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading maintenance technicians in performing scheduled maintenance duties, coordinating outside service technical support, and maintaining spare parts inventory. They will also be expected to demonstrate strong knowledge of machine operation, setup, and safety protocols, as well as modify or assemble structures to improve productivity and safety in the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead maintenance technicians in performing scheduled maintenance duties and ensuring proper maintenance procedures are followed.
- Coordinate and schedule outside service technical support as necessary.
- Maintain spare parts inventory, balancing machine availability and operational needs with inventory expenses.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of machine operation, setup, and safety protocols.
- Modify or assemble structures to improve productivity and safety in the facility.
Requirements:
- 5 years maintenance experience or servicing of printing/bindery equipment in a factory/plant environment.
- 2-3 years' experience as a lead or supervisor preferably in the maintenance field.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Training certificate for machine service organization or technical training in packaging, automotive, or military systems a plus
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-stress, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and develop maintenance technicians.
- Expertise in disciplined mechanical troubleshooting (electrical, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics).
- Proficiency with workshop power tools (drill press, grinders, bandsaw, etc.).
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, as well as lubrication systems (e.g., oilers, air filters).
- Familiarity with electrical wiring, control panels, electrical sensors (limit switches, proximity switches, photo eyes, etc.).
- Competency in using voltmeters and ammeters for electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding and promotion of workplace safety protocols (interlocks, Lockout/Tagout, ergonomics, hazardous materials).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for documentation and reporting.
- Experience with machine controllers (Relays, PLCs) is desirable.
- Knowledge of Relay Ladder Logic and PLCs, electrical circuit diagrams, and electric motors (AC, DC, stepper) is highly desirable.
- Forklift operator certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, twist, turn, and bend for extended periods during shifts.
- Comfortable working in a moderately loud manufacturing environment.
- Capability to perform hands-on tasks requiring physical dexterity, including lifting and moving equipment.
- Sharp vision for detecting machine issues and ensuring quality in equipment performance.
