George Walton Academy (GWA) is dedicated to providing exceptional educational experiences that foster intellectual curiosity, integrity, and purpose. As an independent, college-preparatory institution, GWA serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade on a picturesque campus.

We are currently seeking a qualified **Lower School Counselor** to join our team. The successful candidate will possess expertise in counseling students in grades K3 through 5, focusing on the development of essential social and emotional skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual and small group counseling sessions, ensuring effective communication with parents and families.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom educators to support student behavior and participate in parent-teacher discussions.
  • Deliver Social/Emotional Learning lessons on a scheduled basis.
  • Engage with the Student Success Team to evaluate student progress and address challenges, particularly for those with identified learning differences.
  • Partner with the Director of School Counseling to review cases, set programming objectives, and analyze program outcomes during weekly meetings.
  • Keep current resources for educational assessments and private therapy referrals readily available.
  • Identify students at risk by analyzing program data and student records, and develop intervention strategies with a focus on social-emotional growth.
  • Adhere to professional standards of confidentiality regarding student and family matters.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and stay informed about legal and ethical standards in school counseling.
  • Utilize program-specific data and student records to enhance support for students and families.
  • Additional responsibilities may include occasional duties related to lunch supervision and carpool management.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in school counseling or a related discipline is required.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate reliability, initiative, strong organizational skills, and effective communication abilities.
