Position Overview:
The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) plays a vital role in conducting routine analyses on blood, tissues, and various body specimens. This position is crucial for delivering accurate results to physicians, utilizing a range of clinical laboratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute analytical tests on biological samples efficiently and accurately, adhering to established laboratory protocols.
2. Assess specimen acceptability through visual inspections and identification of abnormal results.
3. Recognize and address factors influencing measurements and results according to standard procedures.
4. Conduct quality control checks for all tests, ensuring compliance with established ranges prior to releasing patient results.
5. Maintain a safe and organized work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning workspaces, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
6. Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program (required).
Certifications: Certification as a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or eligibility through a nationally recognized certification body (preferably ASCP) (required).
Experience: Completion of an externship program is preferred.
