Job Title: Part-time Lactation Consultant RN - Intensive Care Nursery

Penn Medicine is a leading academic medical center dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care, conducting innovative research, and educating future healthcare professionals. As a Part-time Lactation Consultant RN in the Intensive Care Nursery, you will play a vital role in enhancing the normal process of lactation and preventing, assessing, and managing lactation problems in the in-patient setting.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop plans of care for breastfeeding families
  • Perform consultations at appropriate intervals and anticipate patient discharge, establishing an effective plan of care
  • Develop appropriate nurse-patient/family relationships, integrating patient/family concerns, beliefs, and values into the plan of care
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care and adapt it based on the patient's response
  • Provide education and consultation for routine and special circumstances related to breastfeeding
  • Assist with the proper use of breast pumps and other breastfeeding accessories
  • Provide assistance via telephone to pregnant and lactating women requiring information, counseling, follow-up, and referrals
  • Serve as a breastfeeding advocate, encouraging informed decision-making
  • Orient new nursing staff to the infant feeding policy and practice guidelines and serve as a mentor for Lactation Interns
Requirements:
  • RN or RN-GRAD or RN-TEMP (Required)
  • International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners Certification (Required)
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • 2+ years of Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) experience
  • Proficient in French or Mandingo preferred
