Job Overview

Position: Lead Preschool Teacher (Part-time)

Department: Recreation

Compensation: $16.50/hour

Salary is negotiable based on qualifications.

This role serves as the Lead Preschool Teacher at the Rainbow Preschool, situated within the Troy Community Center. The Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for fostering the social and communication skills of young children while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment conducive to learning. Building and maintaining strong relationships with parents and guardians is essential to support the children's development. The Lead Preschool Teacher will document observations and summarize the achievements of each child, focusing on optimal development and readiness for a smooth transition to primary education.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute educational programs for preschool-aged children (3-5 years).
  • Organize necessary materials and resources for activities.
  • Attend to the basic needs of children.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate setting for all children.
  • Engage children through reading, teaching fundamental concepts, and establishing behavioral guidelines. Maintain and update individual learning portfolios for each child.
  • Monitor and assess children's progress, behavior, and social interactions.
  • Maintain regular communication with children, parents, the Preschool Coordinator, and fellow staff members.
  • Participate in mandatory staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Must fulfill one of the following criteria for a lead caregiver as per State of Michigan Licensing Rules:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Montessori Credential with 480 hours of experience.
  • Child Development Associate Credential with 480 hours of experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED with 12 semester hours in a child-related field and 960 hours of experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED with a combination of 12 semester hours in a child-related field and/or 18 CEUs, or 1920 hours of experience.
  • Applicants must provide proof of degree and/or official transcripts verifying educational qualifications.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement educational activities.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and prioritization skills, along with a consistently positive and professional demeanor.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for lesson plan creation.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must handle confidential information responsibly.
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening, including a comprehensive background check through fingerprinting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid Certified at the time of application.

Work Schedule

Approximately 24 hours per week from September to May. Work hours vary between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Limited summer hours are available in July and August.
