The Barista plays a vital role in promoting coffee culture by educating patrons, selling coffee-related products, and preparing a diverse range of coffee beverages, alongside delicious pastries and cookies. Responsibilities also include answering customer inquiries, restocking retail areas as necessary, and maintaining the appearance of the Barista station.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet customers by identifying their coffee preferences and needs.
- Provide education on the coffee menu, addressing any questions customers may have.
- Facilitate sales of coffee and brewing equipment by explaining the differences in coffee beans and preparation methods, and demonstrating equipment functionality.
- Prepare and serve coffee beverages by adhering to established recipes and preparation techniques, including espresso, latte, and cappuccino.
- Manage inventory by replenishing coffee supplies and ensuring that pastries and cookies are well-stocked.
- Ensure equipment operates efficiently by following maintenance instructions, troubleshooting issues, and performing regular upkeep.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment by adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Enhance the quality of service by evaluating and refining processes, implementing improvements, and maintaining the overall appearance of the coffee area.
- Contribute to the coffee shop's reputation by embracing new challenges and seeking opportunities to enhance service delivery.
- Operate the Point of Sale system for a portion of the shift.
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks to uphold cleanliness standards.
- Assist with thorough cleaning processes on a scheduled basis.
- Prior experience as a Barista is preferred.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Ability to interact with customers and colleagues in a respectful and tactful manner.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English is essential.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to follow various instructions provided in different formats.
- Excellent time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions and inventory.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including holidays and weekends, as needed.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Commitment to meeting the expectations of both internal and external clients.
- Demonstrates honesty and respect towards others.
- Consistently maintains courteous and professional communication.
- Collaborates effectively with team members to achieve common goals.
- Meets attendance requirements to fulfill job responsibilities efficiently.

- May need to lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled setting, with occasional exposure to cold temperatures in storage areas.
- Employees may be exposed to a smoke-filled environment and loud noise levels.
