Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at WSP. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality projects and providing exceptional client service.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts, including budget execution, project scope execution, and ensuring delivery goals are met.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and support business development activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external client team members.
  • Provide project status updates and reports to project directors, clients, management, and stakeholders.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of engineers to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical load calculations.
  • Execute ductwork design for airside systems.
  • Execute piping system design for chilled water, condenser water, heating hot water, refrigerant, and specialty systems.
  • Apply controls sequences to suit project requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical system requirements with architecture, structure, electrical, plumbing, and other trades.
  • Evaluate existing systems in the field.
  • Troubleshoot field issues with the design and construction teams.
  • Coordinate with city and state permitting agencies.
  • Create project drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate work in Revit and AutoCAD among project team members.
  • Work knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, lighting design, and technology systems.
  • Oversee construction administration.
  • Follow WSP's quality control process.
  • Mentor junior staff and share knowledge.
  • Remain current in latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience as a mechanical engineer.
  • Engineer PE license required.
  • Project experience submitted for consideration should include buildings on which you have actively participated in the project from the design phase through the final construction close-out.
  • Interest in a wide range of market sectors, such as healthcare, commercial, high-rise residential, aviation, retail, data center, etc.
  • Proficient with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, design/bid/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Experience with mechanical infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant engineering and mechanical construction standards, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of mechanical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis, and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC load calculation software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • LEED Certification.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry with HCAi experience.
  • Experience managing small projects.

Compensation

The expected salary for this position is $83,100 - $145,000. WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
