Creative Arts Therapist

NYU Langone Health is seeking a skilled Creative Arts Therapist to provide innovative and patient-centered care to our patients. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will utilize your expertise in art therapy to assess, plan, and prioritize individual and group interventions for assigned patient populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess patients' interests and creative/expressive goals using knowledge of human development, disease/condition treatment, healthcare stressors, cultural, and family systems.
- Determine and prioritize the scope and depth of creative arts therapy services recommended for each patient based on assessment/reassessment and communicate care plans to physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families as appropriate.
- Plan, organize, and implement creative arts therapy programs for designated clinical areas, ensuring that programs are varied and engaging to meet the psychological, cognitive, physical, functional, social, and cultural needs of patients and their families.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of individual and group interventions in meeting patients' treatment and psychosocial goals.
- Comply with all policies and procedures for the department, hospital, and external credentialing agencies, including safety and infection control protocols/prevention.
- Provide consultation, education, and support to families on the impact of patient conditions, healthcare experiences, and environmental factors on patients' adaptation and treatment.
- Support family bonds and utilize family strengths in patient care and healing.
- Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals and groups, selecting safe and appropriate supplies of materials and equipment to address the needs and goals of assigned areas and populations.
- Collaborate with Environmental Services and others to promote a clean, safe, and functional space for patients and their families.
- Identify environmental safety hazards and corresponding preventive/protective measures.
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary team members, integrating goals and plans to promote optimal patient care, safety, patient/family-centeredness, and satisfaction.
- Participate in team conferences, rounds, staff meetings, and in-service education as appropriate.
- Recommend consults/referrals when patient needs exceed the scope of creative arts therapy.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance job performance and contribute to departmental and creative arts therapy goals.
- Uphold professional codes of ethical responsibility, including establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and families that are clear, caring, and bounded.
- Document services provided to patients/families appropriately, effectively, and in a timely manner.
Requirements:
- Masters degree in Art Therapy with skills using various arts methods, modalities, and materials.
- Certified by an appropriate professional organization.
- LCAT eligible or permit upon hire with licensure granted within two years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of creative arts therapy experience in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
