Role Summary: The Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Specialist II is tasked with the development, execution, and supervision of the Recreation Respite Program alongside various recreational activities and leisure services across other agency initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring high-quality recreational opportunities for all families and participants enrolled in ACHIEVE's services.
- Planning, promoting, and facilitating scheduled and spontaneous recreational activities.
- For Day Habilitation and Residential programs: Researching engaging activities, creating calendars, preparing necessary materials, and facilitating programming multiple times weekly based on program needs.
- Encouraging independent leisure activities among participants by providing essential tools and resources.
- Maintaining and properly storing all recreational equipment and supplies.
- Assisting in the creation of program calendars for all recreational offerings.
- Transporting participants to various recreational and leisure events as required.
- Adhering to the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) Standards of Practice.
- Providing supervision and direct care to program participants.
- Reporting any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns to the direct supervisor promptly.
- Following established policies and procedures to ensure the holistic needs of participants are met.
Desired Qualifications:
- Collaborating effectively with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services and Coordinators to fulfill program objectives.
- Fostering positive relationships with agency departments, parents, staff, individuals receiving services, and community partners.
- Participating in all mandatory departmental or agency meetings.
- Completing necessary documentation and reviews to maintain compliance with regulations and billing practices.
- Obtaining and maintaining required training certifications, including First Aid and CPR (provided by the agency).
Essential Skills:
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with effective time management and organizational abilities.
- Availability to work scheduled hours, including potential overtime, weekends, and holidays, while adhering to the agency's attendance policies.
- Proficiency in computer systems and software relevant to departmental needs.
- Ability to generate comprehensive reports and address inquiries regarding the content.
- Demonstrating sound judgment in both routine and emergency situations.
- Physical capability to perform required tasks and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Preferred experience working with individuals with functional differences.
- A valid driver's license that meets agency insurance requirements.
