Job Description

Role Overview

The Instructional Coach is a key leadership role within the school, responsible for improving the skill, knowledge, and performance of the teaching workforce. This position involves leading and managing a significant area or function within the school, with a high degree of independence, to ensure the effective development, provision, and evaluation of the school's education program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model exemplary classroom practice, including teaching demonstration lessons, to inspire and motivate teachers.
  • Work with the school leadership team to develop a shared view of highly effective teacher practice, ensuring consistency and alignment across the school.
  • Lead and model the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies, driving positive change and growth.
  • Provide professional learning opportunities, including developing processes and protocols for observation and feedback of teacher practice and peer collaboration.
  • Support teachers in seeking, analyzing, and acting on feedback and improving their practice.
  • Provide evidence-based feedback to teaching staff to inform their effectiveness and development.
  • Offer expert advice on context, processes, and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning.
  • Supervise and train student teachers, mentoring and coaching teachers to enhance their skills and confidence.
  • Model exemplary use of student data to inform teaching approaches, monitor student growth, and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Develop and promote school-wide professional learning structures, processes, and protocols.
  • Engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve practice, seeking feedback from other teachers and leaders.

Requirements

  • Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
  • Qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
