Job Description:
The Medical Care Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the nursing staff and ensuring the safe transport of patients. This position requires empathy and understanding of patient conditions to guarantee their care and safety.
Main Responsibilities:
- Patient Support
- Demonstrate necessary skills and judgment to provide direct and indirect support to patients under the supervision of licensed personnel.
- Observe, obtain, and report patient data and status to assigned RNs.
- Respond to changes in patient acuity and emergent situations as directed by nursing staff.
- Professional Development
- Maintain current knowledge and certification, including BLS.
- Function as a preceptor to new employees and demonstrate ability to accept and respond to feedback and recommendations for change.
- Develop professional working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines to promote a positive workplace.
- Stay informed about changes in hospital policy and procedure.
- Safety and Quality
- Foster a culture of safety through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
- Verify patient identification before starting any procedure.
- Comply with CDC hand hygiene guidelines, use universal precautions, and properly dispose of hazardous materials.
- Maintain awareness of each patient's fall risk and use safety devices and interventions as needed.
- Conduct patient safety rounds using SBAR principles and communicate identified risks to the chain of command.
- Technology
- Utilize required software applications and understand how to operate during downtime.
- Compliance
- Work within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.
- Comply with applicable policies and procedures, safeguard patient information, and bring potential compliance issues to management.
- Complete mandatory education requirements for compliance programs.
- Patient and Family-Centered Care
- Respect patient values, preferences, and expressed needs.
- Collaborate with patients and families in planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
- Welcome family members at all times according to patient preferences.

- Consider individual needs when interacting with people.

Requirements:
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED preferred.
- Minimum Work Experience: Previous Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience preferred.
- Required Classes/Skills:
- BLS - Basic Life Support.
- Basic medical terminology.
- Basic computer skills.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work efficiently with various individuals.
