Assistant City Manager

Join the City of Milwaukie, OR team as an Assistant City Manager and play a crucial role in implementing the Milwaukie Momentum strategic plan. As a key member of the City Manager's Office, you will oversee the City Manager's Office and localized budget, supporting City Council in state and federal activities, and assisting city staff in negotiations and creation of intergovernmental agreements.
Key Responsibilities:- Plan and implement an organization-wide assessment and staff engagement effort to identify opportunities for structural improvement, efficiency, and clarity.
- Develop tools and materials to educate the community about the city's Capital Improvement Plan and guide the development of an updated Capitol Improvement Plan driven by data and public input.
- Assist the city manager and city council in identifying goals for and ensuring progress on these adopted priorities.
- Track record as an innovative leader with experience developing and implementing organizational and process improvements.
- Transparent communicator who is open, honest, and respectful, and will take part in crucial conversations to foster a culture of personal accountability.
- Proven experience embedding and promoting equity in the organization and community.
- Trained and experienced in best practices for leadership and management, including through subordinate supervisors.
- Familiar with government capital program delivery, including public infrastructure improvements.
- Experience in negotiations between government entities, as well as non-governmental partners.
- Effective supervisory skills to mentor, motivate, and engage staff.
- Track record of building strong relationships internally and externally, including with local business leaders, community advocates, and other stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, or a related field, from an accredited college or university and five years of progressively responsible public sector management, including three years of supervisory experience, OR
- The city will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, certifications, and experience to meet the minimum position qualifications.
