Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Water Safety Instructor to join our team at the Town of Westwood Recreation Department. As a Water Safety Instructor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality experiences for participants, focusing on safety, fun, responsibility, and respect.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement American Red Cross Programs and presentations, adhering to the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety manual.
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct effective and safe swim lessons, ensuring a positive experience for participants.
  • Implement emergency protocols as needed, prioritizing the safety of participants.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations, maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
  • Evaluate participants and recommend placement for future classes, ensuring a seamless learning experience.
  • Complete course reports and documentation, providing valuable insights for future improvements.
  • Monitor swimming activity to prevent accidents, upholding the highest standards of safety.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with children in a group setting is highly desirable.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to react quickly and calmly in various situations.
Special Requirements and Certifications
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification is required.
Compensation and Schedule

This is a part-time, non-benefit position with a starting rate of $18.50 per hour. Flexible hours are available, including week nights and weekend shifts, with a cooperative work schedule to be determined.
