About Women In Need, Inc.Women In Need, Inc. is committed to disrupting the cycle of homelessness by offering transitional and supportive housing solutions for families led by women. Many of these families have fled from domestic violence and are focused on maintaining their safety and unity. Our Income Building Program assists clients in transitioning from unemployment to stable employment, while also aiding those already employed in enhancing their financial situations. This includes initiatives to increase earnings, shift from part-time to full-time roles, secure health benefits, and transition from informal to formal employment. Additionally, we provide financial literacy workshops to equip our clients with vital skills such as budgeting, bill management, and fundamental financial oversight.
Position PurposeThe Residential Aide plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of all clients and staff members. This position is responsible for enforcing site regulations among residents.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure a secure and operational environment for residents, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
- Welcome incoming families, conduct orientations, and communicate house rules.
- Address incidents following established operating procedures.
- Monitor residents and identify signs of substance abuse, child abuse, or criminal behavior.
- Maintain proficient telephone communication and direct calls appropriately.
- Gain familiarity with building features and potential issues.
- Keep daily logs, including school attendance and visitor/resident sign-in records.
- Conduct patrols of transitional housing sites/apartments and maintain assigned posts.
- Visit various units as necessary and report incidents to the security shift supervisor.
- Participate in program and agency staff meetings, house meetings, and training sessions as required.
- Work effectively under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Utilize a computer to complete intakes and other reports in the CARES database.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ability to visually monitor CCTV cameras and report any unusual activities.
- Capable of ascending and descending stairs in buildings of up to 8 floors.
- Must be able to stand for two consecutive hours at a post.
- Ability to lift and operate a fire extinguisher.
- Commitment to the mission of Women In Need, Inc.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Valid Fire Guard Certification / F02 is required.
- Valid NYS Security Guard License is required.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to interact positively with facility staff and the client population.
- Capability to perform well under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Familiarity with CCTV systems is necessary.
- Willingness to remain on post beyond scheduled hours until relief arrives.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
