Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sterile Processing Department Manager to join our team at the State of Virginia. As a key member of our healthcare operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in the processing and sterilization of medical instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management: Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Sterile Processing Department, ensuring effective management of staff, resources, and operations.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop and implement quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Instrumentation and Supplies: Ensure the availability of instrumentation and supplies in a timely manner to support surgical services and other dependent areas.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the department's operations comply with regulatory agencies such as the Virginia Department of Health, Joint Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Commission, and others.
  • Staff Supervision: Provide direct supervision to SPD personnel, including hiring, evaluating performance, and providing corrective action as necessary.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with staff, management, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless operations and effective problem-solving.
  • Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to optimize departmental performance and efficiency.
  • Training and Development: Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of SPD staff.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to Main OR, OPSC, and clinic leaders, responding to feedback and implementing beneficial procedural changes as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required; Associate's Degree Preferred.
  • Experience: 3 years progressive leadership experience within sterile processing preferred, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Certification: Certification as CRCST (Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician) through IAHCSMM OR certification as CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) through CBSPD required.
