Job Title: City/District Engineer

Join the City of San Ramon, CA as a City/District Engineer and play a key role in shaping the city's infrastructure and public works department. As a senior-level engineer, you will oversee the planning, organization, and coordination of various division activities, including capital project design and construction administration, development review, traffic engineering, and storm water program administration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and direct the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for assigned division(s)
  • Monitor and direct daily operations to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed, that goals and objectives are being met, and that services are being provided efficiently and effectively
  • Perform professional engineering work directly, including reviewing plans, specifications, proposals, contracts, estimates, and other materials submitted by design professionals
  • Direct the preparation of analytical studies and reports related to current and future public infrastructure and facility needs
  • Assist in the development and administration of the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
  • Oversee the preparation and management of consultant agreements and construction and vendor contracts that support the City's CIP
  • Conduct site visits and meet with property owners, engineers, contractors, or attorneys to review and resolve development or capital project issues or disputes as needed
  • Review and resolve traffic engineering-related issues, administer the scope of work, and review studies and analyses conducted by traffic consultants
  • Oversee contracts for street lighting and traffic signal system maintenance and related facilities and appurtenances
  • Oversee the activities of local utility companies that support the City's CIP projects, regional transportation projects, development projects, and utility improvements
  • Oversee the activities of the City's Stormwater/Clean Water Program, including the preparation and submission of the annual report
  • Ensure that the City is in continuing compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to municipal engineering and public works matters
  • Perform final review and approval of street improvement and grading plans for private development projects
  • Develop and monitor the division's budget, oversee the financial well-being of the division, and prepare, submit, and justify budget enhancement requests to the Public Works Director
  • Plan, organize, administer, review, and evaluate the work of subordinate professional, technical, office support, and operational staff through subordinate levels of supervision
  • Confers with and represents the Engineering, Transportation, and Public Services Divisions as well as the Public Works Department in meetings with other City departments and divisions
  • May act for and serve as the Public Works Director, as assigned
  • May supervise Public Works Division Managers as assigned by the Public Works Director
Requirements:
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or closely related field
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience in civil engineering or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Possession of a valid Professional Civil Engineer License issued by the State of California
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment
