Job Summary

Southern Tier AIDS Program, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in our Norwich office. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support services to individuals with Opiate Use Disorder in our low-threshold Buprenorphine program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical support services to patients, including vital sign measurements, medical histories, and medication administration.
  • Assist healthcare professionals with patient care, including preparing patients for exams and procedures.
  • Conduct inventory and supply orders, ensuring that medical equipment and supplies are readily available.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans to promote patient health and wellness.
  • Link patients with community resources and services, including HIV, Hep-C, and other STI testing.
Requirements
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health, Education, Social Work, Liberal Arts, or a related field; or Associate's degree in Health, Education, Social Work, Liberal Arts, or a related field, with a minimum two years of professional experience in a human services or community-based organization.
  • Previous experience working with individuals who actively use substances and/or syringe exchange service experience highly preferred.
  • Experience in acute care nursing preferred.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and have a working knowledge and acceptance of a harm reduction philosophy.
