We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Flight Nurse to join our team at UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine. As a critical care transport specialist, you will be responsible for providing advanced life support to critically ill or injured patients in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:- Provide advanced life support to critically ill or injured patients in adherence with established protocols and standards of care.
- Assess and stabilize patients, utilizing online medical command or other resources as needed.
- Participate in developing and completing research projects to improve patient outcomes.
- Reflect a positive attitude to the customer in a high-stress environment, with a clear understanding of who the customer is.
- Perform daily equipment checks, ensure crew is logged onto computer duty roster, and participate in shift report from off-going crew.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to all requests for service, maintaining a clean patient environment and crew quarters.
- Participate constructively in the peer-review driven quality improvement program, maintaining fitness for duty and adhering to employee health requirements.
- Ensure safe operation of patient-laden stretcher, employing appropriate stretcher discipline at all times.
- Adhere to rules for scheduling, including schedule requests, minimum time, and availability.
- Actively participate in the development and training of new staff, ensuring the safety of patients and all others.
- Collect and promptly process demographic, medical necessity, and other necessary billing information.
- Select and use personal protective equipment appropriate to the level of the anticipated hazard.
- Complete all official documentation in a timely manner, including payroll, expense reports, orientation forms, etc.
- Adhere to the current uniform policy, ensuring patient and family confidentiality and dignity at all times.
- Document appropriate assessment, interventions, and other pertinent patient information in a timely manner.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Three years clinical experience in critical care and/or emergency department
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam, including a maximum height/weight restriction of 6-2 and less than or equal to 210 pounds, fitness for duty physical exam, hearing evaluation, and be declared fit for duty by the Medical Director
- Must be eligible to receive medical command authorization by the Medical Director, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel to any STAT MedEvac base site as assigned
- Must have the ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment
- Act 34
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Advanced Trauma Life Support OR International Trauma Life Support OR Prehospital Trauma Life Support OR Trauma Nursing Core Course
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Certified Flight Nurse (within 2 years of hire)
- Driver's License
- Emergency Service Vehicle Operator preferred
- National Incident Management System Incident Command (within 90 days of hire)
- National Incident Management System Introduction Course (within 90 days of hire)
- National Incident Management System Single Resources (within 90 days of hire)
- National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (within 90 days of hire)
