Reporting To:

Building Principal
Special Education Teacher
Director of Special Programs

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the special education teacher in providing support to students with diverse needs.

Qualifications:

One of the following: 60 College Hours, DESE Substitute Certificate, Passing Score of Paraprofessional Assessment, 20 HR Substitute Certificate Course.

Preferred Experience:

Experience working with individuals with disabilities is advantageous.

Primary Duties:
  1. Prepare instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
  2. Deliver support services to students as assigned.
  3. Accommodate individual learning differences.
  4. Assist students in completing their tasks.
  5. Support students in navigating the school environment.
  6. Exhibit knowledge in engaging with students with disabilities.
  7. Utilize time efficiently.
  8. Communicate effectively with students and staff.
Classroom Management:
  1. Help organize the classroom to foster a conducive learning atmosphere.
  2. Demonstrate understanding in managing students with behavioral challenges.
  3. Adhere to classroom management strategies established by the teacher.
Interpersonal Skills:
  1. Build positive relationships with students.
  2. Exhibit patience, respect, and understanding towards students.
  3. Foster positive interactions with staff and parents.
Professional Conduct:
  1. Engage in professional development activities.
  2. Show initiative and enthusiasm in all tasks.
  3. Comply with school district policies and procedures.
  4. Follow guidelines set forth by the teacher.
  5. Represent the school positively at all times.
  6. Complete additional duties as assigned.
Employment Terms:
A support assistant is employed for a designated number of hours per day during the academic year. Compensation aligns with the salary schedule for non-certified personnel as determined annually by the Board of Education. Employee benefits are based on the total FTE of employment.
Performance Evaluation:
Job performance will be assessed according to district policies.
