Job Details
Position Overview:
This role is situated within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), specifically in the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR), under the Audit and Criminal Investigation Administration (ACI). The incumbent will independently perform comprehensive office and field audits, as well as investigative reviews of complex tax returns submitted by individuals, partnerships, fiduciaries, unincorporated entities, and corporations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough audits to ascertain tax obligations across all major tax categories.
2. Provide informed recommendations and determinations regarding accurate tax liabilities.
3. Reconstruct business activities when taxpayer documentation is insufficient, absent, falsified, or poorly organized.
4. Engage with taxpayers or their authorized representatives to gather necessary documentation to substantiate reported information on tax returns.
5. Undertake additional related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, candidates must possess two (2) years of progressive experience in duties such as analyzing, compiling, and interpreting tax and/or financial data, utilizing accounting and financial analysis methodologies to make informed decisions, and assisting in the development of audit and/or financial reports. Effective oral and written communication skills, along with demonstrated analytical capabilities and sound judgment, are essential.
Educational Requirements:
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution in accounting or a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration, which includes or is supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. This may encompass up to six (6) hours of business law. Official transcripts verifying the degree and accounting coursework must be submitted for consideration.
Specialized Experience:
Experience relevant to the position that equips the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to fulfill the role's responsibilities, typically at or above the next lower grade level in the career progression.
