Job Title: Histology Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Histology Technologist to join our team at the Palo Alto Center. As a Histology Technologist, you will play a critical role in the preparation and processing of histology specimens for diagnostic purposes.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating knowledge, theory, and practice to execute procedures in assigned areas of Pathology effectively. This includes maintaining competence in all routine and advanced histology procedures, performing routine maintenance, slide/stain quality control, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Integrate knowledge, theory, and practice to execute procedures in assigned areas of Pathology effectively.
  • Maintain competence in all routine and advanced histology procedures, including embedding, sectioning, routine automated staining, immunohistochemistry, and histochemical staining.
  • Perform routine maintenance, slide/stain quality control, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Receive, prepare, archive, and retrieve specimens/materials as required.
  • Prepare and stock department supplies and reagents, ensuring readiness for laboratory operations.
  • Conduct quality assurance tasks to uphold laboratory standards.
  • Produce high-quality frozen sections from specimens for analysis.
  • Conduct training for routine histology practices, including embedding, sectioning, and routine automated staining.
  • Orient and embed various tissue types according to specified procedures and instructions.
  • Prepare high-quality tissue sections using automated or manual microtomes, following laboratory protocols.
  • Perform automated and manual routine and special staining protocols, ensuring proper control and staining characteristics are achieved.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities in accordance with policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Review slides and stains as part of quality control processes, verifying performance against controls before distribution for interpretation.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting, addressing routine system issues and escalating complex problems appropriately.
  • Handle specimen reception, verification, accession, and processing for testing and interpretation.
  • Ensure accurate data entry throughout testing, interpretation, and reporting processes.
  • Adhere to department policies and procedures to ensure positive patient identification during testing and reporting.
  • Complete necessary quality assurance tasks and training for routine histology practices.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in histology and hold a valid state license. HT or HLT certification is also required. Epic experience is preferred.
