Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team at the University of Missouri-Columbia. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the Theriogenology service, providing exceptional care to animals, and contributing to the success of our veterinary medicine and surgery department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with animal handling and care, ensuring the health and well-being of our patients.
  • Request and process diagnostic tests, maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with veterinarians and other staff members.
  • Order and stock supplies, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Collect blood and semen samples, adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
  • Support the management of the semen bank, ensuring accurate records and efficient operations.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments and communicating with clients, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Estimate costs and manage client communication, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of theriogenology rooms, adhering to high standards of hygiene and safety.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience, with a strong foundation in animal care and handling.
  • Experience working with small and large animals, with a focus on theriogenology and veterinary medicine.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented setting, with a focus on collaboration and mutual support.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
