Job Summary:

As a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at SSM Health, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to plan, coordinate, and implement care for adult patients undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs as a circulator, scrub, or monitor on the cath lab procedure team.
  • Ensures patients are correctly prepped for procedures and that necessary information is timely.
  • Administers medications to patients, including critically ill patients, and reports abnormal information to physicians in a timely manner.
  • Performs hemostasis safely and properly with or without vascular devices.
  • Enters patient orders and charges, checking for accuracy.
  • Provides care to critically ill patients, functioning independently in stressful situations.
  • Educates patients and families based on assessed needs, documents education provided, and keeps them informed of tests and treatments.
  • Assists families to the cardiology area or Cath lab area as needed.
  • May perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
  • No experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.

Required Professional Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
