Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Benefits Consultant to join our team at IMA Financial Group. As a key member of our employee benefits brokerage team, you will be responsible for leading strategic consultation and planning efforts for self-funded/captive client benefit programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure programs and plan design are in alignment with all applicable regulatory requirements
  • Utilize intermediate knowledge of actuarial concepts and underwriting practices to analyze claims data and provide applied explanation to the client and internal team
  • Direct the service teams' work assignments related to project management, claims escalation and resolution, and plan analysis/reporting
  • Develop strong carrier and vendor relationships to support and lead negotiation and advocacy during client coverage placement and renewal process
  • Coordinate with internal subject matter experts and practice leaders to bring current and emerging markets and products and solutions to the table that are aligned with clients' stated goals
  • Participate in finalist and/or prospect meetings in partnership with production staff, as appropriate
  • Participate in the development of prospect requests for proposals (RFPs), providing personnel responses and other information, as requested
  • Partner with production staff to ensure compensation received is properly executed
  • Availability to serve as a resource for other agency benefits staff throughout the entire benefits division
  • Strong commitment to participation in department or agency-wide committees and special projects
  • May coordinate and manage the overall work and projects of assigned associates, providing clear communication of expectations, established timeframes, and regular progress updates
  • Participate in the hiring process, as needed
  • Provide feedback to service team members, and their direct supervisors as needed, in support of on-going professional development goals, ensuring client expectations are met
  • Support and demonstrate IMA's core values

Requirements
  • Proven experience as an Account Executive, Lead Consultant, or similar role in the employee benefits brokerage industry for 5+ years required
  • Attain and maintain applicable state Life and Health License in accordance with IMA standards
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite required
  • Expertise in self-funded health plans required
  • Demonstrate above average business acumen related to strategy execution, interdependencies, and decision consequences
  • Experience with managing clients in a self-funded captive is preferred
  • Demonstrate positive mindset and ability to optimize performance through collaboration
  • Demonstrate consistent ability to adapt in stressful situations and develop strategies for improvements in organizational effectiveness
  • Demonstrate strong ability and commitment to excellence in communication, both written and oral, through active listening, information sharing, and a focus on solutions
